Passion

I’m sick of going through the motions!  I’m sick of doing things and being around people that mean absolutely nothing to me!

I’m tired of spending my valuable, precious life in exchange for paychecks!

The gifts and talents that I’ve been given are too special to give away just to get a few dollar bills.  My life is to be spent making an impact on the lives of others.

It is no longer good enough for me to just be alive.  I need to LIVE.

I need passion back in my life.

How do you feel about your job?

With record-breaking unemployment numbers and folks being laid off every day, it’s hard to complain about your job…if you have one!

A good friend of mine recently experienced a shift in his work situation that created a major — and less than desirable — shift in his personal life.  As most of you probably realize, when companies let people go, they expect the same amount of work to get done with fewer people.  That clearly puts an incredible strain on those that survive the lay-offs.  What was once a comfortable work environment quickly became one full of stress, fear, and tremendous pressure.

As a recruiter, I have a unique perspective.  By speaking with eligible candidates on a daily basis, I get a chance to the type of people that are currently applying for jobs.  Folks who were making $200K to $300K are now applying for jobs that pay less than $80K.  Companies simply don’t have the same volume of open positions now as they did just six months ago.

I have also noticed that there are very few people who love what they do.  They work because they have to work.  And they are currently employed in positions that meet needs OTHER than job satisfaction (i.e. pay, location, convenience, etc.)

Let me ask you…How do you feel about your current job?

Weekend Plans?

My weekends have been crazy for as far back as I can remember!  There may have been just one weekend ALL SUMMER that I spent in my house.  Weekends away.  Penn State games.  Sailing.  Whatever.

After working hard all week, a good weekend is a QUIET weekend!  The fewer things on the agenda the better.

On the other hand, after working hard all weekend, it’s nice to have a little fun, too.  In fact, this weekend in Central Jersey is the annual African American Arts & Heritage Festival (thanks for the link, Alanna).  I’ve gone in previous years, and have always enjoyed the music, food, vendors and family atmosphere.

Here’s the problem…there is ALWAYS something to do!  I’m trying to get better at making the choice to do nothing.  That type of thinking is really not a part of my nature.  However, as I continue my efforts to be a healthy person, I’m learning that rest is as much a part of a healthy lifestyle as is diet and exercise.

So, I’m not sure what you have planned for the weekend, but make sure it includes a little rest and relaxation.

Enjoy!

October 16: National Boss’s Day

Hallmark has done it again!  Created another holiday so that we can buy their cards and give them to anyone and everyone they can think of.

Actually, according to Wikipedia, Boss’s day is a day where employees thank their boss for being kind and fair during the year.  The holiday was registered with the US Chamber of Commerce in 1958.

Fortunately, I currently have a great relationship with my boss.  I believe she is fair, helpful, and supportive.  However, I haven’t always had such luck!  One of my previous bosses must have been Godzilla’s illegitimate daughter.  She was mean AND ugly!

What kind of relationship do you have with your boss?  What impact does it have on the quality of your work?
